Days of Destiny

New Day of Destiny

Destiny is meant to be definite and understandable, not elusive and unattainable. It is a daily walk with the Lord. Destiny happens every day when believers are aligned with God’s will and propelled by rhythms of his grace. Only by following the Holy Spirit can a person do God’s will and fulfill destiny. Jesus lived a life of submission to the Father, doing only what he saw the Father do and speaking only what he heard the Father say (John 5:19, 12:50). His destiny involved a daily walk with the Father. He completely fulfilled his destiny. He was able to say to the Father, “I glorified you on the earth by accomplishing the work which you have given me to do” (John 17:4). In this study, you will learn how to walk in your destiny.

Introduction to Destiny

Destiny comes out of God’s supernatural kingdom, not man-made religion which keeps people in the natural realm. Some who are called into destiny try to separate the sacred from the secular, thinking that a religious activity is the only way to fulfill destiny. There is no such distinction between secular and sacred in God’s kingdom. “Whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). A person can fulfill destiny while working on a job or raising a family. The kingdom reaches into every aspect of life.

Alignment with the Father’s Will

Jesus found his destiny in God’s word. “Behold, I have come (It is written of me in the scroll of the book) to do your will, O God” (Hebrews 10:7). Like Jesus, believers can find their destiny in God’s word as a way to walk.  “We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). The works of destiny are already prepared for believers. There is nothing better or more fulfilling for you to do than to spend your life doing what God always planned for you to do.

God laid out a path for every believer to follow. “Let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking only at Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1-2). As with Jesus, the appointed path leads to God’s throne of grace. Remove anything in your life that would get in your way. Despite many enemy attacks and hindrances, Paul was able to finish the path that God laid out for him. He wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8). Your path leads to the throne of grace in the court of heaven where believers are rewarded for fulfilling destiny.

Stay in alignment with the Father’s will by following the Holy Spirit on a daily basis and over the long term. David wrote that the days of destiny have been written in God’s book. “In your book were written all the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them” (Psalm 139:16).

There are major markers along your path. Hiking in the mountains, I often walk through the woods for miles trying to stay on the right trail. The occasional marker is always a welcome sight for it is the only way to know how much progress has been made and which trail to follow. People need markers in their lives to show their progress, position and direction.

In the supernatural realm, markers come in many different forms. A direct word from the Lord can give confirmation on what has been accomplished and what direction to take for the future. Spend time fasting, praying, and seeking the Lord so that he will speak with you more frequently. Study God’s word for Jesus to come alive through manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Also, prophetic words can give direction and release potential. Stay connected to prophetic people, and receive their words for your life. Act on them.

Rhythms of Grace

Destiny is a supernatural journey that comes out of walking in rhythm with God. Jesus, who is God in the flesh, calls those who are tired and weary, “Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it; learn the unforced rhythms of grace” (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG). As people walk together, they keep pace by staying in rhythm. They may slow down or speed up, but they stay together. God extended grace to Noah to help him keep up in their walk together (Genesis 6:8-9). God did not want him to fall behind. Noah fulfilled destiny by building an ark to save his family.

What does it mean to walk with God? Two people will not walk together unless they are in agreement (Amos 3:3). The idea is to move in rhythm with someone. If you take a walk with someone, you have to keep pace with that person. Walking with God means that you are not running ahead of God and he is not running ahead of you. You walk with God by staying in rhythm with him. Do not expect him to adopt your rhythm.

The rhythm of life that Jesus portrayed produced oneness with the Father. Just as he was one with the Father, he prayed that all his disciples throughout the ages would be one with the Father. “I am not asking on behalf of these alone, but also for those who believe in me through their word, that they may all be one; just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you sent me” (John 17:20-21). By being in perfect union with the Father, Jesus fulfilled destiny and saved humanity.

Personal Story on Destiny

Sherry and I taught children, youth, and adults in several congregations we attended to help with various programs. After we began hearing from the Lord ourselves, he expanded our vision and sent us to do evangelical work in jails and prisons. Many of these people received salvation, deliverance, healings, and miracles through our ministry. Later, the Lord sent us to the broader body of Christ throughout the world.

Most of the day-to-day direction for my life has come from an unction within or direct guidance from the Holy Spirit. Every few years, the Lord has spoken to us about major changes in direction for the ministry. Many times, the Lord spoke directly to us about these major changes, but sometimes he used others, especially prophets to help guide us. These prophetic words often confirmed what the Lord was already speaking to us.

Conclusions

Destiny is a daily walk with the Lord on a garden path leading to the throne of grace where you receive grace and mercy. Fulfilling destiny involves alignment and rhythm. Stay aligned with the Father’s will by following the Sprit every day. Find your destiny in God’s word. Stay in rhythm with the Lord, not falling behind or going ahead.
